Job Summary

As the Hydrocarbon Allocation / Production Accounting Manager, you will have strategic responsibility for the accurate measurement, allocation, and reconciliation of hydrocarbon volumes (crude, gas, NGLs) from field through transport to offtake. You will lead a team of hydrocarbon accounting professionals to deliver timely, compliant, and reliable production data for internal and external stakeholders, and collaborate closely with operations, commercial, and finance groups to optimize revenue and manage risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve hydrocarbon accounting, allocation, and reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Oversee end-to-end reconciliation of production volumes: field data collection, meter calibration, sampling, validation, balancing, and allocation
  • Lead the monthly allocation processes, including partner reconciliations, mass balance modeling, and allocation factor optimization
  • Review and approve custody transfer documentation, stock certificates, and third-party injector / pipeline injections
  • Monitor and enforce integrity of metering systems: meter proving, recertification, autosamplers, flow computers, data integrity, and audit trails
  • Interface with operations, metering, measurement engineering, and lab teams to resolve discrepancies and losses
  • Interpret and review commercial agreements (e.g. Crude Handling Agreements, Transport Agreements, Joint Venture / PSC contracts) to ensure contractual / regulatory compliance in allocations
  • Provide technical and commercial support to the commercial / marketing team, including evaluation of third-party injectors and their compliance
  • Lead and oversee reporting to regulatory bodies, joint venture partners, and internal management, ensuring timely and accurate submission of production reports
  • Lead and mentor the hydrocarbon accounting team — training, performance management, succession planning
  • Participate in audit processes (internal and external) related to hydrocarbon accounting
  • Advise management on production / allocation risks, process gaps, and opportunities for revenue optimization

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical), Geosciences, Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Advanced degree (MSc, MBA) or professional credential in accounting / energy is a plus
  • Experience in a managerial or leadership capacity, overseeing a team
  • Deep understanding of metering, flow measurement, allocation methods, mass balance, meter proving, and custody transfer principles
  • Familiarity with hydrocarbon accounting tools / software (e.g. Energy Components, Avocet, Flow Suite, SCADA / DCS integrations)
  • Strong contract / commercial acumen — ability to interpret Joint Venture, PSC, Crude Handling, and Transport agreements
  • Sound knowledge of Nigerian regulatory environment (e.g. NUPRC, NMDPRA, NNPC, local content rules)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple tasks / projects
